Activity Log 1: The Internet’s Earliest Memory of Me

Biography: Colin Legg’s first Internet appearance was in 2012 when he participated in a TV Show called “Mega Dens.” The featured episode followed the renovation of the Legg family basement. Years later, an update on his life was provided in 2017, when he was listed on the roster of his club and high school soccer teams. He played for both Northside Soccer and The Lovett School in various positions. Since attending college at Washington & Lee University, Colin has participated in numerous clubs, including WLSC and Diverge. According to his Linkedin, he will be working as a management consultant post graduation.

Explanation of Process: In order to thoroughly research and capture my life through the perspective of the Internet, I tried to chronologically determine which life events are more likely to be posted publicly. The easiest information to find was my recent online activity since entering college because of my involvement in clubs with websites and professional profile in Linkedin. The most difficult information to find was from my childhood. Despite my efforts, I was unable to determine anything about my life before moving to Atlanta, my experiences from elementary school, or early sports teams. Consequently, it is fair to assume my web presence has increased over time. When I was younger, my parents shielded me from the Internet, explaining that uploaded information’s secrecy could never be restored. As I’ve grown older, my confidence addressing privacy has increased. Now, I better understand how my data is used and when/when not to turn it over. Surprisingly, most content I discovered was not on social media. I suspect this is because my accounts are all private. Finally, if a researcher from the future is trying to learn about me, they are missing out on my personality, achievements in my personal life, and many skills that are not public information.
