This New York Times article focuses on the uncertainties surrounding Deepfake technology, describing its current and future use. A section of the article advocates that the benefits of the technology outway its drawbacks.

This article offers an analysis of why deepfakes are such a serious threat to knowledge. While it has a lens of negativity towards the technology, it mentions the epistemic benefit of education such as visual creation of historical events to enhance student teaching.

This article summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of Deepfake technology. This source is useful because it lists unique benefits including the reimagination of art, audio recreation, and the “revival” of dead actors and musicians.

Diagnostic Industry, 4 Oct. 2022, https://www.mddionline.com/artificial-intelligence/medical-deepfakes-are-real-deal. 

While most media coverage of Deepfakes is negative, this source explains its positive impact on the healthcare industry. This source is uniquely valuable to my project because it shares the technology’s benefits to healthcare, specifically its ability to recognize abnormalities through generation of synthetic imagery.

This Medium article discusses positive use examples of Deepfake technology and its 

future benefit to society, including topics of accessibility, education, art, and human rights expression. The listed benefits are unique to this article and provide additional examples of positive use cases for my project.

This source discusses what Deepfakes are, who produces them, what the benefits and threat of the technology are, some examples of current, and how to combat them. The contents will be useful for my project because it outlines benefits of the technology that are unique to the article, including recreation of favorite movie scenes, digitally creating voices for actors who have lost theirs to disease, realistic dubbing in any language, and other special film-related effects.
